Laminate Flooring on Stairs
We've had an eyesore in the center of our house for quite some time. We ripped out the old carpet upstairs after the kids decided to see how much mess they can make with craft paint. It was a good decision; you wouldn't believe how much dust is under a carpet. Anyway, the laminate flooring project was begun and after a fair amount of trial and error, we did pretty well.
Eventually, we get to the stairs. After taking out the carpet, we found that the risers were fairly basic plywood, but the treads had the rounded edge that you typicaly see. So we were presented with the problem of how to install laminates on a stairway.
So, one fine day after getting the kids out of the house, the nosings were cut off. It was an interesting project because the circular saw only gets you so far and then you have to hand-saw the rest of the way without marring the surface of the wall on either side. But, eventually, that finished up and it was time to install the laminates.
We were going with a relatively inexpensive Lowes solution and one thing we found out was then there are no nosings you can buy that match the laminate you get when you choose the stock product. So we ended up buying a Pergo nosing that looked nice, and then glueing everything into place. We end up with a small lip at the end of each stair which probably isn't the safest, but we'll install a carpet runner to fix that issue.
We'll post a few pictures when we're done, but it was a simple project, even if it lingered on for awhile, and it doesn't look half bad, either.
